Who we are
TONAL WORKS. is a music production and sound design studio led by Yuki Sezaki.
Our work spans advertising and film music, brand sounds, artist releases and product interactions, from music in the spotlight to sound that supports visuals, products and experiences.
We begin by understanding why a sound is needed: what it should communicate, who it should reach and what it should achieve. We look beyond the brief to the purpose behind it.
We consider both musical expression and function to find the right approach for each project.
Led by Yuki Sezaki, we collaborate with specialist creatives as needed and work on projects in Japan and overseas from Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.
Our approach to sound
Expression & function
Sound can express character and emotion, as well as communicate information and state.
We combine melody, rhythm, timbre and structure to fit the work, brand and setting.
We value both expressive qualities and functional purpose.
Design & finishing
The sound needed also depends on where it will be used.
We consider the visuals, playback environment, level, quality and technical requirements, finishing the sound for its intended context.
Musical quality matters, as does working appropriately for the purpose.
Founder profile
Yuki Sezaki
Music Producer / Sound Designer
Born in February 1989 in Fukuoka. Based in Osaka.
Began working in music as a guitarist in 2009, later expanding into composition, arrangement and music production for production companies and artists in Japan and overseas.
Building on artist music production, he expanded into advertising and film music, sonic branding and UI/UX sound.
His work considers musical expression alongside how sound communicates information and shapes experience, across a range of music and sound design projects.
He now leads TONAL WORKS., working from Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.
CAREER
2009 — 2026
- 2009
Began working in music as a guitarist.
- 2013
Began music production. Joined the founding of a production company as COO.
- 2014
Became a producer at production companies in Los Angeles and Taiwan.
- 2016
Began UI/UX sound design work.
- 2020
Began releasing music as an artist. Reached No. 1 in Japan in Hip Hop / R&B.
- 2021
Directed music for a Sony Music artist.
- 2022
Stepped down as COO and continued under a producer agreement.
- 2023
Established TONAL WORKS. as an independent business.
- 2024
Moved to Malaysia and joined Directors Think Tank.
- 2026
Expanded operations across Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.
